Web Page Philosophy

The Web is a means of distributing information: it is NOT a substitute for television. The most annoying aspect of the World Wide Web is the World Wide WAIT. Consequently, in my Web sites I don’t use flashy graphics, nor graphics at all except insofar as they contribute to readability or navigability.

Furthermore, while I can write HTML straight up, having considerable experience in writing and teaching structured programming languages, I prefer to use an editor. In general I use FrontPage, despite my dislike of Microsoft (remember, MSS), because FP makes it easy to quickly create and "publish" a site. I don’t mind a "canned" site if it serves the purpose of distributing information.

See Jakob Neilsen's many articles about website usability.

"Always do right--this will gratify some and astonish the rest." Mark Twain
"A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away."  Antoine de Saint-Exup'ery
"A teacher is never a giver of truth - he is a guide, a pointer to the truth that each student must find for himself. A good teacher is merely a catalyst." (Martial Arts quote)
